Plat books can be an aid to genealogists for following land ownership in families and locating the names of neighbors of ancestors. Plat books contain maps of each township with land parcels outlined with the name of the land owner and acreage of parcel. Also the maps will list cemeteries, schools and roads. In addition to the maps there are 4 pages of illustrations of the leading families in the county and a patron's directory listing their address and when they entered the county.
Edwards county is in south eastern Illinois. The county seat is Albion and other towns are Bone Gap, Browns, Grayville and West Salem.
